RAILWAY DISPUTE.
SETTLEMENT LIKELY. BOARD OF TRADE INTERVENTION BRISBANE, Sept. 2. The Board of Trade and Arbitration, which intervened in the railway strike, has probably arrived at a settlement of the trouble, as it is now practically certain that the Australian Workers’ Union will accept the board’s proposal that the South Johnstone strike be declared off, and that the men resume on the basis of the Australian Workers’ Union proposal—made some weeks ago —which was rejected by a ballot. The combined unions will probably support the Australian Workers’ Union in forcing the South Johnstone men back to work, and if this is accepted a railway settlement will result.—Press Association.
