HOUSE DAMAGED.
STRUCK BY^LANDSLIDE. ALARMING EXPERIENCE. (By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 2. An alarming experience befell Mr J. H. Martin and family, of Waiotahi, near Opotiki, at one o’clock in the morning, a hillside slipping down and striking the house with terrific force. The landslip, which was caused by heavy rain, struck the house between the kitchen and one of the bedrooms. On rising Mr Martin found that the kitchen door had been driven in and that, the floor of the room was covered halfway across with clay three feet deep. The back wall of the house was stove in and also a partition of the room in which the children were sleeping. The children fortunately escaped injury, although their beds, which were against the wall, were damaged. The house blocks were bumped out of position for several inches. Neighbours have come to Mr Martin’s assistance and are carting the debris away in drays.
