TRADE WITH CANADA.
MR PRATTEN SPEAKS OUT, VANCOUVER, Aug. 20. The Commonwealth Minister for Customs, Mr Pratten, said to-day that lie had stressed in interviews with Ministers at Ottawa that reciprocity meant give and take, and lie did not think the dumping duty on Australian butter consistent with the treaty. . Mr Pratten would not express Ins opinion whether the dumping duty would be lifted as a result of his representations. He would report fully to Mr Bruce, hoivever, he said. Many interests in Canada had approached him, Mr Pratten went on, with regard to further trade with Australia, including apples and onions, from British Columbia. He had referred them to Ottawa as the proper channel. .. . , Asked concerning United States trade with Australia, Mr Pratten said lie gave special attention to this subject while in America. He had been advised that several important automobile manufacturers had decided to open branch factories in Australia, one in particular being of great interest to primary producers.
