MENACE OF WAR

SOVIET NAVY WARNED. “PROBABLY START 1928.”FLEET BEING AUGMENTED. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, July 25. The Riga correspondent of the Times says that a general meeting of seamen and commanders of all units wound up the Baltic manoeuvres of the Soviet navy. The meetings were held on the open sea. The War Commissar, M. Voroshiloff, warned the fleet that the menace of war was real, and that a conflict would probably start in 1928. The fleet was already in fighting trim, but it must strive for greater efficiency. M. Voroshiloff stated that the fleet was being augmented for 1928 with a first instalment of four cruisers, three destroyers, and seven submarines, in order to protect the Baltic from British raids.—Times.
