FIRE AT TAIHAPE.
EARLY MORNING BLAZE. Per Press Association. TAIHAPE, Feb. 5. A fire occurred in the Taihape Times premises at six o’clock this morning and gutted the main portion of the building. Damage was done to the printing machine by fire and water, while the type plant is a total loss. A linotype was damaged by water. The fire originated in a fireplace. The plant and building were insured. MOTHER’S TRYING ORDEAL. Per Press Association. BLENHEIM, Feb. 5. A two-storeyed house at St. Andrews occupied by Mrs L. PI. Rainey and family, was totally destroyed by'fire last night. The husband was absent in the country. There were eight children in the house and Mrs Rainey had some difficulty in collecting them and marshalling them to safety. She was in a state of collapse when the neighbours arrived. The children range from a baby a year old to a boy of 14. The house is insured for £250 and the contents for £2OO. Practically all the contents were destroyed. FIRE AT FEILDING. [Special to “Standard.”] FEILDING, Feb. 5.
About 9.30 o’clock last evening the Fire Brigade received a call to South street where an outbreak of fire had occurred in the residence of Mrs Iverridge. The flames, which had broken out at the rear of the house, had almost taken complete charge when the brigade arrived, but, after a good fight, the damage was confined to the interior of the house which was completely gutted. Practically nothing was saved.
