[Special to “Standard.”] FOXTON, Fob. 3. Yesterday afternoon two road cycle races were organised by the Foxton Amateur Cycling Club. There was a largo attendance of the public in Main street to witness tho events which drew a large number of entries. The A grade race was for tho championship and was keenly contested, tho distance being three 1 miles. All riders left from scratch mark and G. Aldridge soon took the lead and was _ never headed, winning by half a wheel with E. Robinson second, P. Hansen third, and H. Huff foutrh. Tho B. grade race was over a seven mile course and resulted as follows: — W. Wright (45sec) 1, R. Chrystall (80sec) 2, J. Satherley (60sec) and E. Coley (25sec) tie for third place. An easy win for Wright with a good distance between second and third men. , BOWLING. Yesterday afternon tho final round of the Triangular Shield matches was played on the local green and resulted in a win for the Shannon Club, Levin being runnersup. Play yas as folows : Levin: Monk, Percy, Bull, Suhan (skip) 20 v. Foxton: Parkin, Pearson, Mattan, Bryant (skip) 17. Shannon: Mason, Murray, Jones, Spencer (skip) 26 v. Foxton; Easton, Walton, Admore Nyo (skip) 20. Shannon: Spencer, Clayton, Knowles, Roach (skip) 20 v. Foxton; Whilbley, Dowknes, McCall, Wood (skip) 21. Levin: Pike, Brown, Hawke, Clments (skip) 17 v. Foxton: Rimmcr, Huntley, Christie, Thomson (skip) 20. The aggregates scores were: Shannon 165, Levin 156, Foxton 134. A the conclusion of play, the Mayor (Mr E. Perreau) presented tho shield to the winning club and congratulaed hem on heir play. This was the ninth contest for the shield, he said and ho expressed pleasure at tho fine sporting spirit that had existed in the competitions for it. Mr Spencer replied on behalf of tho Shanno earn and thanked the local club for their hospitality. Cheers were then exchanged and given for the ladies, who provided a tasty afternoon tea. CROQUET. A general meeting of the’ croquet club was held on the green on Wednesday, the president (Mrs R. Bryant) occupying the chair. The following team was selected to represent Foxton against St John’s (Feildmg) at Palmerston North on February 10: —Mesdames McMurray (4 j), Owen (54), in the singles, and Mesdames Perreau (3j) and Woods (44); and Mesdames Pearson (6) and Moore (64f in the doubles. The association secretary notified that Mrs McMurray’s handicap had been reduced from 54 to 44. It was resolved to hold a further series of card parties in an endeavour to augment the club’s funds. The following are the results of yesterday’s play:— __ Half-hour tournament. —Mesdames McMurray break 9, cut off 9; Perreau, 6,5; Wwen 6,2; Moore 14, 12; Ball 4,3; Parker 4,3; Bryant 2,8; Downes 11, 1; Miss Wanklvn 2, 4. Handicap singles.—Mrs Ball (74) beat Mrs Bryant (9) 26—11. Stewart Shield matches. —Mesdames McMurray and Perreau (holders) beat Mcsdarnes Owen and Moore (2 bis.) 26 —23. NOTES. Most of tho roads and footpaths stipulated in the loan raised last year for tar-seal-ing have now received their first coat of tar. , , Mr C. Proctor, of the local State school, is at present confined to his home as the result of an injury to his knee.
