RACING NEWS.

FROM STABLE AND COURSE. (By “Binocular.”) Buoyant furnished Awapuni representatives with their one success at Hawora on the opening day, although Kilmiss showed up prominently enough to take second money in the Nolan Cup. The local owner, Mr It. A. McKenzie, had tho satisfaction of winning the Egmont Cup of 800 sovs. with his representative Piuthair, the Foxton veteran Nukumai running another remarkable race to take second honours.

T. Green, tho Awapuni lightweight, added two further victories to his credit at Hawera when he piloted Piuthair to victory, and brought off something in the nature of a surprise when he won on Vivo in the Nolan Cup.

It. J. Mackie figured only in lesser degree, he being up on Buoyant when the Solferino gelding added yet another success to hia credit since being purchased by owner-trainer H. H. Doyle, while he also took second honours to Green on Kilmiss in the Nolan Cup.

Progeny of Acre again enjoyed a great run on the opening day at Hawera, three of that breeding in Whenuanui, First Acre and Acred gaining major honours while another in Eka filled second berth.

Tho stewards of the Woodvillo Jockey Club have decided that in future any complimentary tickets issued by the club shall be absolutely free. No tickets will bo subject to the payment of 2s.

H. Nurse has recommissioned tho hurdler Projector. The Formby gelding is stated to be big in condition, but he is in good health to commence a preparation for winter engagements.

Front Rank has been showing signs of soreness as a result of her mishap on tho last day of the Trentham meeting, states a southern writer. She has been restricted to very light tasks since she returned home, and sho cannot be at her best for the Dunedin Cup, even if she is a starter.

Ring the Bell was left with E. Pope after the Takapuna meeting and will probably race at the Te Kuiti meeting on Saturday. It is understood he is in the private sale list.

A queer coincidence in connection with Mr A. Alexander's efforts to capture the Wellington Stakes is worth recording, says the Hawera Star. In the contest for that event in 1920 Silver Link had the race won fifty yards from the post, when the saddle slipped back, and Silver Link, bucking vigorously, dislodged her rider (the late A. J. McFlinn), and Moorfowl won. Li this year’s contest the rider (T. Tito) of Silver Link’s son, Silver Mine, broke an iron, and despite this big handicap fully ‘ extended the winner, Limited.

At the conclusion of last week’s racing, the positions in tho lists of winning trainers ; jockeys, and apprentice jockeys in Now Zealand were (states the Press) as follow: —Trainers: C. Gieseler 20, A. D. Wehstor 14, B. George 13$, J. Williamson 13, F. W. Ellis 12, A. Goodman 11$, H. Hickey 11, J. Ross 11, S. Waddell 11, F. C. McKay 10$, W. Pine 10, G. W. Now 10, J. Fryer 18. Jockeys: R. J. Mackie 275, B. H. Morris 27, F. Voight 22, F. E. Jones 21, L. G. Morris 20$, H. Wiggins 20$, It. W. McTavish 19, J. Barry 18, L. A. Pino 18, E. A. Keesing 17, C. W. Franco 16, J. T. Humphris 14, C. Emerson 13, W. H. Jones 13. Apprentices jockeys: A. H. Driscoll 15, T. Green 10, S. Wilson 10, P. Burgess 9s, N. C. Dwyer 9s, C. Davis 8, F. L. Butterworth 7, A. H. Eastwood 7, L. J. Ellis 7, J. S. Potter 7, T. Tito 7, N. C. Trillo 7.

The ex-New Zealand cross-country horseman, Ron Cameron, is an expert with jumpers, says the Melbourne Globe, and this season he has been very successful with them. Ho has won six races, and all of them have been over jumps. With Gereldery, who died recently as the result of a fall -at Caulfield, he won three steeplechases this season, and with Tarquil he Raptured two. Miltrim scored Cameron’s first hurdle victory this season when ho won at Caulfield last month.

What is believed to be a record insurance has boon»effected by Mr George Mitre, who has insured his colt Macon in London for £30,000. This horse won all the classic events of this and last season at Buenos Aires, and has not yet been beaten. He has also beaten all records for prize winning. Macon is tho son of Sandal out of Bourgogne, and is closely related to the celebrated St. Simon.

EGMONT MEETING

TONKS STAKES WON BY CLARINDA.

HAWERA, Feb. 3

The summer meeting of the Egmont Racing Club was concluded to-day in fine weather. Benzora won the sprint from Lady Desmond and First Acre, and in the Tonks Stakes Clarinda scored from Mint Leaf and Nukumai. There was an inquiry into Benzora’s improved form to-day as compared with his running yesterday', but after hearing evidence no action was taken. Tliero was also an inquiry into Elvaetto’s improved running, but again no action was taken. During tho running of the Trial Handicap Lethal fell, but his rider (A. Driscoll) got off with a shaking. An inquiry into the accident resulted in Driscoll being suspended for a month for careless riding. The totalisator handled £22,478 as against £27,986 10s on the second day last year, making £44,552 as compared with £53,873 for the two days twelve months ago.
