LITERATURE WANTED.
FOXTON CAMPS. Books, magazines, and similar reading material which may be lying idle in Piumerston North homes could be made iu serve a very useful purpose during tins month and next. At this time tne various artillery batteries of the V. cllington and West Coast district, comprising some hundreds of young mo.i, will be encamped at Foxton. Included in them will be the 7th and bin batteries from Palmerston North. ft is no light task to provide entertainment and homeliness for leisure flours in such camps with large numbers, but that is wliat the Y.M.C.A. is undertaking every year as a part of its service to young men. From the national headquarters of the association in Wellington this military peace work is carried on and secretaries are sent out wherever camps are held. When it is realised that, in the first five months of this year, about one hundred camps are to be held, the magnitude of the rusk and the service will be realised. At Foxton camp, the Y.M.C.A. includes in its equipment a reading-room, and an appeal has come to Palmerston North from Mr S. C. Cresswell, national military secretary of the assocation, for contributions of reading matter. Parcels large or small will be welcomed, and should be forwarded to or left at the local Y.M.C.A. in Grey street.
