DEPRIVED OF COURT
TOWN IN QUEENSLAND. ALLEGED INTIMIDATION. FORAIER CASE RECALLED. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received February 4, 10.55 a.m. BRISBANE, Feb. 4. The Government has decided that Innisfail in North Queensland be deprived of the Circuit Court sittings. The Attorney-General, in a statement, said it had been represented to him on several - occasions that the action of jurors at Innisfail had proved averse to bringing in verdicts of guilty and that intimidation had been resorted to in some cases. A Supremo Court judge investigated and reported that he regarded the allegations as true and recommended that the Circuit Court at Innisfail be abolished. The Government had therefore decided that it had no option but to deprive Innisfail of the court. This is the second time in the history of Queensland that such action lias been taken, the Government o.ver 50 years ago having deprived Roma of the privilege in connection with an alleged cattle stealing ease, when the jury failed to convict despite the evidence which the Crown held was indisputable. The Roma case was inspired by the plot of Rolfe Boldrewood’s “Robbery Under Arms.”—Press Association.
