GOVERNMENT’S ATTITUDE.

ON POWER BOARD AFFAIRS

PREPARED TO RECEIVE SUGGESTIONS.

“The Government is always prepared to receive suggestions from tho power boards and is willing to act on them if thought desirable,” stated Mr F. T. M. Ivissell. chief electrical engineer of the Public Works Department, when addressing the annual conference this morning of the New Zealand power board secretaries and executive officers.

The department, he proceeded, was perfectly prepared, to co-operate with the supply authorities in the stimulation of the electrical industry 1 and had already intimated that it was willing to assist in the publicity campaign suggested by the power hoards. To give cheaper rates for electricity, continued Mr Ivissell, it was necessary to know exactly what the demand would be, and in that connection it was up to the hoards to supply nil necessary information. Regarding the inspection of lines, the department had found it necessary to put on a bigger inspection staff owing to the great increaso in mileage of lines erected, and, so long as tho power boards observed the department’s regulations, just so long would the department impose no hardships in this respect. Concluding, Mr Kissell extended a hearty invitation to delegates to visit the hydro-electric works at Mangahao to see the activities of the department there. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr Ivissell for his remarks.
