BANK ROBBERY
ATTEMPT AT PORTSMOUTH. MAN WITH REVOLVER. THRILLING STREET CHASE. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received March 30, 10.55 a.m. LONDON, March 29. A bank manager’s pluck, followed by a thrilling street chase, frustrated a daring attempt to hold up the branch of Lloyd’s Bank at Portsmouth.
A smartly dressed young man entered the premises and presented a revolver at tho manager and said: “Give me all you have got; this is loaded.”
The manager edged towards the side door and the intruder ordered him to halt and then grabbed a bundle of £SO notes and dashed out with the manager in pursuit. A hue and cry followed. The fugitive mounted an unattended bicycle, but a motor car chased and ran him down. The bandit, being unhurt, sprang to his feet and fired a revolver at the car and smashed the wind screen and a tyre. A policeman boarded a motor lorry and caught up to and overpowered him and effected his arrest. —Reuter.
