MAIN HIGHWAY.
SURVEYORS AT WORK,
FOXTON-HIMATANGI ROAD
Motorists generally will bo interested to learn that tho Highways Board is now taking the preliminary steps preparatory to tho forming of the main highway along the FoxtonHimatangi road. Tho surveyors are already at work mapping out tho route, whilst a gang is ahead clearing, all obstacles that obstruct the surveyors’ vision. The scheme in general, which entails the shifting of the centre of the road from its present position to a point approximately 40 feet from the railway line, will also involve a large amount of work ! and labour in removing the many sandhills and filling the low sections that lie along the route. A well has already been sunk at a central point of tho road to provide the water necessary to the undertakfn conversation with a councillor of the Manawatu County Council, a “Standard” representative was informed that tho road now in use would in all probability remain in its present state and would save motorists being put to the inconvenience and risk that have been characteristic of other roads already in course of formation into a main highway.
