JAPANESE MILL WORKERS.
TROUBLE IN OREGON. NEW YORK, July 14. A message from Salem, Oregon, states that following on a reported protest in Tokio, Governor Pierce rs investigating the action of a mob in Toledo, Oregon, in forcing a score of Japanese mill workers to leave the town last Sunday. Citizens complained that the Pacific Spruce Corporation had imported labourers, paying them 240 cents a day, while whites were previously' paid 360 cents to four dollars for the same work.—A. and N.Z. cable.
