RADIO CLUB

FIRST ANNUAL REPORT. The first annual report of the Palmerston North Radio Club for presentation at the annual meeting details the constitution of the club as the result of a meeting called by Mr Ben Hunter on July 9 of last year. Proceeding to deal with the operations of the organisation during the past twelve mouths the report states: —The first big event of the year was the exhibition, which was held for three nights. Club members got together and an aerial was erected and demonstrations were arranged for. The exhibition was an unqualified Success and the funds of the club benefited substantially. Good attendances were the vogue for the three nights. With the money thus raised the parts for a transmitter were purchased and assembled by members. During the next few months lectures and demonstrations were carried out. Owing to pressure of business Mr Hunter resigned his position and Mr Johnson was elected hon. secretary and treasurer, and Mr Leet assistant secretary. Mr Kyle was appointed chairman. The next event was the starting of regular transmissions by the club’s transmitter. Messrs Kyle and Johnson were examined for transmitting licenses. Both were successful and we offer our congratulations to them. Mr Johnson was appointed operator, and he commenced transmission under the call of 2GI. During March, 1925, a conference of n-adio clubs was held in Wellington and another was held on April 26th, to discuss the radio affairs of the Dominion. Mr Johnson was appointed our delegate to the second conference and on his return gave a full report on the conference. His remarks were seconded by Mr Hunter, who also was present. Mr Johnson was unfortunately compelled to resign from the position held by him, and prior to his departure was presented with a transmitting valve and key as a token of appreciation of his valuable work for the club. Mr Hunter on the eve of his departure was presented with a pocket wallet suitably inscribed. The committee wish to place on record their appreciation of the valuable services rendered by both these members. The balance-sheet shows a very satisfactory state of affairs and reflects great credit on all members. It is a very satisfactory conclusion to one year’s operations, especially when the fact is taken into consideration that the property owned by the club includes a 10-watt transmitter complete and aerial equipment. The thanks of the club are due to all those members who have assisted in making it the success it has been, and especially to Messrs Johnson and Hunter as secretary and treasurer and operator and founder respectively; also to Mr Kyle as our present chairman. We also wish to thank all those who so kindly gave donations to the funds and to all those who helped to make the exhibition such a success. We also wish to thank the following:—Messrs Berryman for the loan of gramophone and records used in transmitting; Jansen for donation of cabinet for transmitter ; Forrest for donation of aerial equipment; White for donation of “A” battery; the press, and all those genttlemen who came forward and gave lectures and demonstrations during the year. The retiring committee wishes to emphasise the necessity for all members doing their utmost to make the coming year a bigger success than the initial one.
