DEATH OF A WIDOW.
MOTORISTS SUED FOR DAMAGES. « Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 19. As a' sequel to the death of Mrs Evelyn G. Stevens, widow, at Ngaruawaiiia, an action was begun in the Supreme Court in which the executor and trustee in the estate sued David Douglas Wallace Martin, medical practitioner, and James Thomas Douce, architect, claiming £ISOO damages. Plaintiff alleged that on the night of May 17 Mrs Stevens was knocked down by Dr. Martin’s car, receiving injuric '-> which she succumbed; that Dr. Maau.,l was driving north and that Douce was driving in the opposite dir action with headlights casting a brilliant glare along the road. There we: e three children dependent on the deceased, their ages being 15, 10 and 14 years respectively. Dr. Martin admitted that Donee’s ligjts were dazzling, but lie denied the t he ran over or knocked down Mrs Stevens. He claimed that the fatality was caused by deceased’s negligence or by the combined negligence of Mrs Stevens and Douce. Douce made similar denials.
The hearing was adjourned until to morrow.
