FEILDING NEWS.

OROUA COUNTY COUNCIL. MONTHLY MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Oroua County Council was held at Feilding today. Cr A. Cumpbell presided, the others present were; Crs O. McElroy, W. H. Brewster, J. Greunhow, and J. H. Vincent. The correspondence included a letter from the Palmerston North Hospital Board regarding an increased levy, part of which was for the purchase of a small farm at Awnpuni. In speaking to the matter Cr Vincent said the board had been much more successful in collecting unpaid hospital fees, the estimate being £4BOO, while no less than £5690 .was collected. In connection with the purchase of additional land at Awapuni, he would like to say that the whole of the products of the Old Peoplo’s Home went to supply the hospital, such products including vegetables, pork, etc., and with the new land available the saying to the board would be considerable. . . Cr Greenhow said no one could attend tho meetings of the board without being impressed with the detailed consideration given all the questions brought before them. The secretary was a very able man and there were exceedingly able men on tile board who did their level best to safeguard the inteersts of • the ratepayers. The chairman said lie was pleased to see that an earnest attempt was being made to collect the fees. At one time only 20 per cent, of these wero collected and this was much too small. He moved that the best thanks be conveyed to their two representatives on the for their efficient, service. —Carried. TREASURER’S REPORT.

The treasurer reported that the total general rates outstanding on 31st March, 1925 were £1042 7s lOd; arrears collected amounted to £65 10s 7d. Riding accounts: Mangaone, cr., £403 18s 4d; Rangitawa, dr £lO7 17s 6d; Raumanga, cr., £429 2s Id’;’ Makino, cr., £316 Is; Taonui,' dr., £124 14s 4d; Hiwinui, dr., £l9O 18s lid; Otangaki, cr., £334 4s Bd. Bank balances: County Fund Account, cr.. £460.
