MINERS AS EMIGRANTS.
NC SPECIAL INDUCEMENTS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 15. The Board of Inquiry into the use of New Zealand coal in locomotive engines on the New Zealand railways heard evidence l ore to-day. 11. D. Thomson, Under Secretary of Immigration, said tnat since 1922 no special inducement had bee'v made to bring miners to New Zealand. In 1922-23, 397 miners came hare, in 1923-24 277, in 1924-25 269, a total of 943. There had been no special requisition for miners by the companies. The ar avals of miners were novf dropping off. About two years ago he was advised that he had better tel! miners intending coming here that they might- not be fully employ >d as the miners then were working short t. me. In 1919 the Imperial Government proposed that New Zealand should take SCO Cornish miners, but this offer was turned down.
