OPERATIONS IN AMERICA.

Received May 15, 9.25 a.m. WASHINGTON, May 14. Mr Jardine, Secretary of Agriculture, announced that there had been wrongful manipulations in the wheat market, but definite evidence upon which to base convictions hod not so far been obtained. An investigation would clearly show that the wide fluctuations were due, primarily, to the heavy trading of a limited number of professional speculators. Their operations were facilitated by large public participation after the material advanced occurred in January. Mr Jardine stated that he desired to develop a method whereby repetition of the erratic price changes would be obviated. —Sydney Sun cable.
