NEW ZEALAND LOAN.

UNDERWRITERS’ PROPORTION.

LONDON, May 14. It is estimated that the p-oportion of the New Zealand loan which will be left on the hands of the underwriters will range from sixty-five to ninety per cent. A. and N.Z. cable.

The Timos’s city editor writes: The fact that the underwriters have shouldered tlie most substantial part of the New Zealand loan is bound to influence future colonial issues. It is known that other borrowers, including some Australian States, are anxious to raise fresh money, but in the present circumstances it would be wiso to moderate their expectations. A series of largo overseas loans, the bulk of which would be left to the underwriters, might force tho interest rate to the six per cent level. There is a limit to the amount of undigested stock underwriters can absorb.”—Times.
