DRILLING WORKERS.
WAS IT A PAGEANT? NEW YORK, March 15. Fifty men, said lo be members of the Workers’ Party, wore found drilling in an Eust Side hull. Three were arrested urid the others dispersed by members of the police “bomb squad.” When brought before the Court the men protested that they were only reheursing a military play depicting tho Commune riots in Paris. Hundreds of their sympathisers, who crowded the Court room, were on the verge of rioting when the magistrate ordered the leaders to lie detained. The American Civil Liberties Union has issued a statement describing the action of the “bomb squad” ns ridiculous, and stating that, the rifles being used were 60 years old, and that the pageant, which was being rehearsed had been advertised for two months.
