It is generally believed that such a development is inevitable soon; At present the prospects of a presidential election continue poor. The financial problem is insoluble. *lt is understood that the Government is re- : jecting ..the Powers' demands arising from the recent bandit outrage's on the ground that the reparations are excessive and that foreign supervision of the police infringes China's sovereign rights.
