-■>:.: ; (By "Left Hook.") Arrangements are well in hand, for the forthcoming boxing tournament to be held at the Opera House on the loth inst., .and the association is confidently looking forward to a "bumper house. , Tho numerous patrons of boxing with whom "Left Hook" comes into contact have expressed themselves as being well satisfied with tho prices for admission, and hope that tho association's scheme of holding tournaments every six weeksVtvill eventuate. If these contests are-held, as intended, then the a j;ye'ry, needful. membership should be obtained by the association, without which it. is a struggle to carry on, , The. Linton Rifle Club's room is tho scene of some very strenuous training just now, and the following boxors may be seen in action every night:— O'lveefe (2), Bill Strange, Brown, Nesbitt. Potburys (2), Walden, C. Ihle, Slater, Hayes and J. Mahoney, also many beginners. Clinton and a dozen other good lads, including Upton, _ Evans, Troon and Crichton, are training at Terrace End and with the two schools going strong there should be some very keen fights here in the near future. Clinton was narrewly defeated at Wanganui last Saturday night by Barnes, of Wellington, who easily defeated PUrdy at'the recent North Island championships and a return match is beihg arranged for Palmerston' North. The Lane-Clinton match is off, but Brdwn, of Tauhiarunlii, will meet Clinton and he will have to bo all out to defeat this lad, who.has had 19 fights, 10 wins and three losses, on points. As a number of are under the impression that the Murray-Blackburn iglit is to be a return match, it is desirable to make it plain that such is not the case, and what will be shown will be the moving pictures of their great 'fight-in Wellington-, which-was the most thrilling ever seen in that city. . ■: -'.' •••■;'• ■:"- ■'..
