RONGOTEA LUTHERAN.
NOT A GERMAN SCHOOL.
A letter was received at last night's meeting of the R.S.A. from the Minister for Education in which it was stated that an inspector had been sent' to visit the Lutheran school at Rongotea and it had. been found that as only four pupils were jn attendance the school could not be registered under the Education Act. The proposed curriculum indicated that the school was to be conducted on the same lines as the Lutheran school at Marlon. Religious instruction in conformity with the beliefs •jr tho Lutheran Church was to be given, but tho German language was not to bo nsed. It was quite clear that the .sohool could not bo a "German school," but, only a school that was to be attended by the children of adherents to the Lutheran Church. The teacher had taken the oath 1 of allegiance and a guarantee had been given in the following terms: "Loyal. British sentiments and patriotism will be taught as a matter of religion and conscience." ' The explanation was accepted as satisfactory.
