SUPPOSED INFANTICIDE.
(PlB PBIBS ASSOCIATION.) DUNEDIN, Jan. 22.
An inquest was opened to-day on the body of a newly born infant, found in a sack on the St. Clair beach on Tuesday with a piece of linen tied tightly around tho neck. Dr. Evans said the body was fully developed and well nourished. There was' a circular pressure mark on the neck. He was of the opinion tho child had lived and the cause of its death was asphyxia. There was no water in the lungs, showing it had not been drowned. There must have, been somo interference with tho air supply. The constable said the bag had apparently been in the sea, but could not have been there long. It was found at high water mark. The Coroner adjourned the enquiry sine die.
