THE REINFORCEMENT QUESTION.

At an enthusiastic recruiting mjeling at Port Chalmers last night, lion. | I James Allen, referring to the fact that' i New Zealand had done even more than ' she was asked by the Imperial Governj incut, said the brightest gleam of hope | lay in the fact that the demand for I per cent, reinforcements had been reduced by the man who knew more about it than any man on earth, Kitchener. Nevertheless in artillery at least New Zealand was going to send 100 per cent, in the next two or three reinforcement*. The reduction projiosed by Lord Kitchener in the percentages of reinforcements was "15 per cent, infantry, and 10 per cent, mounted, Mr Allen continued: "We want you in New Zealand to supply us every two months with 1800 men. We have sufficient in camp now for the next two lots of reinforcements and lor officers and non-commissioned officers of the third, but we want to enrol and re- . ;j>ter every, young man willing to make a sacrifice for Empire and flag. AW want to have them registered and we want them to continue their work. The • greatest service a young man can render the Empire until called upon to sacrifice his life is to keep up the industries of the country anil maintain the finances by keeping on working.
