SIDNEY CREEK FLORAL BALL.

"A charming and pretty eight" was the unanimous vcidict of tho onlookers at Stoncy Creek Hall last evening, when the first waltz of the ball was in full swing. The wails were not visible, being covered with a, mass of flowers and ferns, artistically arranged, while festoons of green-stuff ' were hung across the liall in all directions, the stage being transformed into a veritable bower, cabbage- trees reaching to the roof, palms (kindly lent for the occasion), and tho subdued light blending together, caused the result to be very effective. The ladies had taken- up tho "floral" idea very ' enthusiastically, their dresses being covered with the flowers they represented. Among those I noticed particularly were: —White Rose, Miss Pawson ; Violets, Miss Wardell; Last Rose of Summer. Mrs M. Johansen; Lilacs, Mrs W. E. Byres; Sweet Peas. Mrs Henegan; Chrysanthemum, Miss Joan Tait; Poppies, Miss Burgess; Moss Rose, Miss Johansen; Marguerite, Miss M. Tait; Forget-me-Not, Miss V. Johansen; Geranium. Miss Maggie Tait; \iolets, MrsFunnell; Daisy Bell. Miss Mangusson; Red Roses, Mrs Pitt am; Pansies. Miss Laurence; Rod Geraniums. Miss S. McRea; Yellow Chrysanthemums, Miss L. Mc-Rea; Pink Chrysanthemums. Miss MacDonncll;' White Chrysanthemums, Miss McLclland; Pink Geraniums, Miss K. McLelland; B. Roses, Miss Bctt; Chrysanthemums and Ferns, Mrs Bulkley ; Rose Buds, Miss D. R-ossvall; Roses, Miss H. Hansen. Several ladies carried nouquets of their favourite flowers, but a very common flower at most dances wa;- conspicuous by its absence, not one beiij t r seen in the room, viz.. wallflowers. The r. usic was provided by Messrs Moslem (Violin) and Cornwall (piano), anil gave grfo t pleasure to the dancers. The 'only draxv'tJ: was lack of room to dance comfortably in. Visitors came from Ashhurst, Feilding. Halcombc, and Woodville. and all regretted when the time arrived for ending oneooff f the; prettiest, and jolliest dances ever licld in the district. •
