PHILOSOPHICAL SOCIETY.
' A LARGER BUILDING SEEDED; The usual meeting of da'l Soci-ety was held last evening, Mr* M. Cohen presiding. An interesting paper on " The- nestling habits of Fantaik," prepared by 1 Mr W. W. Simth, was read by Mr R. Wilson. The paper waa much appreciated by those present and general' regret was expressed that the writer of it was not present. Four new members of the society were elected, namely. Messrs H. Harcimond, A., Drake, G. Williams anc£ Charlesworth. Mr Cohen said that it was with as feeling of pleasure that he noted that the Borough Council had decided to 1 invite competitive designs for the erection of a building which would be more suited to the needs of a library, museum, and the Philosophical Society, and that they were now taking steps to have the specifications drawn up for that purpose. At first it had been proposed to alter the present Building, but finally it had been decided to choose another site where there would be room for a more commodious structure. This, he thought, was a wise decision, in view of the fact that tho society was continually receiving curios for exhibition from various parts of New Zealand. At present they were in the unfortunate position of having to store these curios away instead of placing them on view, owing to thowant of room, and later they mightbetter accommodation were not provided. This might prove disastrous to the museum and he trusted tho Council would do all in their power to carry out the proposed work.
