THE RIVERS PROBLEM
With the decision of yesterday's meeting the labours of the special committee appointed at the first meeting of delegates of local bodies in connection with the proposal to control the overflow waters of, the district rivers came to a satisfactory and successful termination. As will be noticed by a perusal of the report in to-day's issue, it was unanimously decided to ask for the appointment of a Royal Commission to determine the details of the important project of control of overflow waters. In going thus far the committee has accomplished a great deal more than was thought possible at the first meeting of delegates when, though the importance of the work was admitted, no secret was made of the expectation that the meetings would be fruitless of .results. The initial difficulties having been overcome, much good may confidently be expected from the commission, which will consist of experts in river conservation.
