Simcox was thrown from his horse and received a nasty shaking. Mr Field, M.P., is urging the settlers of Haute re to apply for better postal and telephonic facilities. A petition is now going the rounds of the district, and is being freely signed. Considerable regret is being expressed here that Otaki is to lose both its ministers—Revs. Paris and Stealey. Although the latter has only been here two years he has made many friends, his genial and kind disposition making him a firm favourite with all denominations right throughout the district. His presentations were well earned, and we hope to see many more made to him before his departure. The Rev. Stealey has been amongst us for some four years, and is respected by his townspeople. His friends wish him bon voyage in his new sphere of lab( urs. The Girls' Friendly Club are making great headway here and arc working assiduously to accomplish the objects of the society. Mrs (Dr.) Huthwaite intends to deliver a health talk at an early date, and a glee club is being arranged among the members. There is a possibility of the ciub forming a hockey club.
