THE STRIKE.
Per Press Association. GREYMOUTI-I, March 18. There is nothing new to report re the strike at Blackball. Everything is quiet in the township, and the miners intend to hold a meeting to-morrow to further consider the position. From present appearances a settlement is far distant. ~ DUNEDIN, March 19. Mr A. R. Barclay, addressing his constituents, generally approved of the Government policy. Ho regretted tho Blackball strike, but said the miners were insulted and tortured by fclit? dismissal of seven of their leaders;. He was satisfied that these seven men were marked because of their exertions on behalf of their fellows, and because of the position they took up in endeavouring to assist them to bettor their condition. A vote of thanks and confidence was Unanimously passed to Mr Barclay. AUCKLAND, March 19. Tho Trades and Labour Council has deferred consideration of a request for •financial assistance from the Blackball miners, pending the receipt of written correspondence.
