WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD.
The monthly meeting of tho above was held last evening. Present—Messrs F. Pirani (chairman). Spurdle, Gutnrie, Bennett, Cargill, Purnell, Aldridge, and Fraser. The chairman, in a few well chosen words, officially welcomed the new member, Mr Aldridge, to the table. Leave of Absence.—Leave of absence was granted to W. Griffiths, Kaitoke, two days; A. McDonough, Campbell Street, three months; M. Grant, Terrace End, January 27th to February 17th. Finance. —The cash statement read as follows:—General account, cr., £879 11s 7d; Wanganui Technical School account, dr., £126 14s 6d; maintenance account, cr ' £1491 10s 9d; bank overdraft, £3218 14s sd. ■ " ' , ~ , Commercial Instructor. —Resolved, that Mr Cox bo appointed commercial instructor for the district. Grants.—The Education Department notified grants as follows : —£345 for Ohakune. and £324 for Taoroa, for tho erection of schools. , Kiwitoa.—G. Tappin wroSe to the Board, asking that his senior scholarship be transferred to the Wanganui Technical School.— Resolved that his application be granted. Taihape. —From the committee, asking that tho school bo converted into a District High School.—Resolved, that the committee be written to and. informed that steps will bo taken as soon as tho information .required is obtained. Sanson.— From tho committee, asking that the school be: closed for one week, owing to the death of tho teacher's son. —Resolved, that tho committee bo infowned that the Board have no power to close schools except in cases of infectious diseases, and that they should have made an application for a relieving teacher. Rata. —It was resolved that if a suitable site be found, tenders be called for moving the Rata school.
