A. & P. ASSOCIATION.

Tho ordinary monthly meeting of the Manawaiu A. and P. Association was held to-day. There was a good attendance of members, and the president, Mr F. Arbon. presided. CORRESPONDENCE. From the Royal Agricultural Society, Sydney, stating it had been decided to obtain the services of an Ayrshire judge from New Zealand for tha next show, and asking for the assistance of this Association. Expenses totalling £12 would be allowed.—Mr S. Standen nominated. From Itobt. Aldworth, acknowledging election to the general committee and apologising for absence to-day. From Mrs J. C. Nathan, conveying her sincere thanks for the vote of sympathy on tho death of her husband. From E. Short, acknowledging his election as vice-president of the Association, and asking for two months' leave of absence on account of illness. —Lctivo granted and vote of sympathy passed. From tho General Manager of Railways, with regard to the altered weight of 'grain sacks to 2001b; sacks of additional weight will bo charged four times the ordinary rate, but tho by-law will not come into force till February, 1909. From D. Fleming, agreeing to allow medal donated by him last year to be awarded on the same conditions as last year. From the Taranaki A. and P. Association, forwarding motion passed by them asking the Government to tako necessary steps for tho welfare of stock on trains. —No action taken. From Pascal Bros., asking the consent of the Association to carry a road through the Education reserve belonging to tho Association, thus prolonging Cuba Street. The writers have decided to cut up their property for sale. —Referred to tho Ground and Finance Committee to report. , . From H. M. Simmonds, apologising for absence. From the Maryborough A. and P. Association, pointing out tho unsuitablcness of tho by-law limiting the maximum weight of cornsacks. From the Otago A. and P. Association, stating they had written to the Hon. Minister for Agriculture suggesting- that any holiday granted school children to attend agricultural shows be not included in tho number of holidays now allotted to school committees. It was desired that every facility arid opportunity be given, so that school children should be able to inspect the live stock and products of tha Dominion. Tho co-operation of this society was desired. —It was decided to point out the Wanganui Education Board's regulation, and to state that it was within their power to adopt same if they desired, without application to the Minister. NEW MEMBERS. Several new members were elected. Several resignations were also accepted.

REPORTS. The Dairy Show report contained tlic following recommendation : —That the Dairy Show Committee find further accommodation necessary for dairy show purposes, and that the General Committee be applied to for £300 to extend the present building. The Finance Committee reported in favour of the proposal. Mr Johnston stated that space was absolutely required fo rexhibits this year. Government intended to make a big show and last year exhibits from the Agricultural Department could not be shown owing to want of space. Mr Jarvis also expected fully 600 head of poultry at the show, and the latter gentleman interjected that owing to the alteration of dates of the Wellington show more entries wore now expected. Mr Johnston moved the adoption of the report.—Carried. The Ground Committee recommended the removal of the secretary's old ofHce to the Short. Street entrance, and make it suitable for a caretaker's residence, and that Mr A. 11. Kelsey be appointed caretaker. The report was adopted. ELECTION OF COMMITTEE. Mr Russell expressed tho opinion that it was not desirable in every case to appoint tho nmners-up at tho general election to vacancies on the committee. He thought that it was very de£irablc the committee should be free to appoint whom it liked to the committee. Mr Cohen objected to the proposal, stating ho had always supported the principle of paying attention to the views of members as expressed at the general meeting. Ho moved in connection with vacancies now to be filled that the next four men on the list of candidates be elected to fill the vacancies, two for a period up to January, 1909, and two up till January, 1910. Several diverse opinions to cither course wore expressed, Messrs Wheeler and Jacobs stating they were entirely opposed to automatic action such as propowd by Mr Cohen. The motion was lost.

As tho result of a ballot Messrs T. R. Willis, A. Sutherland. T. R. Hodder, and R. Tanner were yelected to fill vacancies on the oommit.fee. Messrs Sutherland and I-lodder hold office until 1909, and Messrs Tanner and Willis until 1910.
