THE REPRESENTATION COMMISSION.

A LIVELY MORNING

WELLINGTON. Nov. 16.

I understand, on the best possible authority, that the Representation Commissioners had a very breezy morning indeed. The work was the appointment of the representation between the two Islands. At present the representation is equal, each Island having 38 members. The census returns have preps', red the public for an adjustment. How many must the South Island give up to the North Island? The Commission fought sill the morning ovrr the question of whether the sur- /■( nd.-r and transfer should be two or throe. Practically the.v differed about a member. Eventually, just about dinner time, they came to a division, the result of which was a tie, and

the casting vote of the chairman math: it three. The decision then is that the North gets 41 members

against the 35 i;i the South. The balance of the North over the South will, in the 17th Parliament, be six members. The question of a d issolution next cession is invested with a sudden definitoness of interest. The results in connection with the weight-guessing competition at the Wanganui Agricultural Show, which were disclosed yesterday afternoon, show that the guessing was particularly close. The weight of the bullock was declared as 9981 b, and no less than four persons —Messrs J. Piimsoll. J. Tawse, C. E. Smith and Mrs Elizabeth Lind —guessed the correct weight, and in consequence divide the first, second, and third prizes. Three others guessed 997-J-lb, within J-lb; five guessed 997, and six 999. within lib; and six 99-Jlb, within ljlb of ih e winners. The total number of tickets sold was 526. The aggregate weight of the three sheep was as follows:—No. 1, S7i!b; No. 2 56', Il>; No. 3, 49 J lb; total, 193.1 lb. The correct weight was guessed by Messrs M. Mahoney, W. R. Morgan, and V. it!. J. Taylor, who consequently divide tiie three prizes." No less than live persons named 1931b, within !)/ the correct weight. The :::.;n- ---•)! rickets sold was. 424.
