Accidents and Fatalitie
(Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, April 2. An accident which terminated fatally occurred; at PonsonbyV yesfterday afternoon to Albert Hauleyßeacham, 11 years of age. Beacham, accompanied by a companion, caught a horse in a paddock and tied a rope round the animal's neck. He fastened the other end of the rope round his body. The horse becoming frightened galloped round the enclosure several times, dragging the lad with it. On the animalbeing brought, to a standstill Beacham was found to bo dead. > ' A gumdigger named Thomas Cooway attempted suicide near Mercer on Saturday afternoon. He apparently discharged ■two shots from.a revolver into hia forehead. He ioforihed a policeman he had tried to shoot himself, but could not : account for his action. Hopes of his ! recovery are entertained. | 'A jockey named Jenkins was seriously , injured during a hurdle race at the j Ayondale meeting on Saturday afternoon. ] Jenkins was riding Boseplot. The horso J struck a hurdle heavily and came down, j Jenkins striking the ground forcibly ■ With his head. His injuries are regarded as serious.
