Choate said that Canada and the ■United States had one civilis&tion, ono law, one bops and aspiration. They ought to bo ahlo to settle all differences. Earl Grey besought Americana to give friendly and powerful assistance in realising the destiny of Canada. Ho was convinced the United States did not desire to annex Canada. LONDON, April 2. As the result of tho success of the Labor movement m the Motherland, a movement has boen started in Canada to organise- a Labor party there. . SYDNEY, April 2. Ward, master of tha steamer Manly, was acquitted" on a charge of manslaughter of Mrs Hemming, killed in a collision with a launch on January 28. The origin of the recent big fire still remains a mystery. Much interest was taken in a public debate between Mr G. Reid and Mr Holman, a member of the Assembly, on the question of Socialism, Two thousand were present. Holman, who appears as the accredited representative of the Labor party, opened with a speech in defence of Socialism. Mr Reid replied. The debate will be finished to-morrow night. .
