On Cr Essex's suggestion the Borough Council last night authorised several improvements to be effected to the Sports' Association Ground appointments in view of the approaching sports. The following is an extract from Mr D. Sinclair's reply to the selection committee's question re tne new street regulations : —" Many of the new streetsare, in bad condition through being hurried: through quickly in order to get them'taken over by the Council. A. special meeting of the College-street School Committee was held; last night. Present—Rev. I. Jolly (chairman), and Messrs Carville, T. Hall, Drew, Hansen, Goodger, and Pratt. Six weeks' leave of absence was granted Miss' Lynch on account of illness. The headmaster re.ported that Miss Billens was absent through .illness. It was decided to urge on the Board the necessity of sending a relieving teacher at once. Mr Drew gave notice that he would move at next meeting that the committee' thoroughly endorsed the action of the promoters of the Foxton beach railway scheme. '

The Selection Committee met this morning, and. selected Mr C.- N. Clausen to take Mr H. Palmer's place on their Ticket for the Council ; election. Mr Palmer has been obliged to retire, from' the contest on account of having a contract td supply the Borough with chairs for the new Opera House. Mr Clausen was amongst those previously nominated for the Ticket. He saet the Selection Committee this morning, and expressed his "Willingness to have his name placed on their Ticket.
