DUNEDIN, Oct. 25. The Golf Tournament opened to-day at the Balmacewan links. Tbere was a slight drizzle, and a breeze blew from the south-east, making the putting greens heavy- The visitors express appreciation at the arrangements. The first round of the championships resulted:—MacEwan beat McLaren 6 up and five to play; Keiha beat Perry 1 up; Tapper beat Holmes 8 up and 6 to play; Fisher beat Fenwick 6up and sto play; Wilson beat Wood suo and 4 to play; Meldrum beat Grimston 9 up and 8 to play; Turnbuli beat Harman 3up and 2to play; H. Armstrong a bye.
Second round— Kurepo Tareha heat WiHaorooup and 3to play ; S. K. Sleight beat C. Beatson 5 up and 3 to play; J. O. Akane beat J. O.Kettle 3 up and 2 to play ; J. R, Scott beat N. H. McFarlane 4 up and 3 to play ; H. J. Stronach beat W. C. Macgregor 3 up and 2to play; R Balneavis beat H. E. Wright 2 up and 1 to play; G. H. MacEwah beat J. N. Lawson 4 up and 3to play; A H. Fisher beat J. C. Wilson 4up and 3tr play ; P Keiha beat E. A. Tapper 2 up; C. Turnbuli beat D. Meldrum 3up and 2 to play; Dr Brown beat W. A. Darling 2 up and 1 to play; A. M. Hogg beat G. G. Cnpps 3 up and 2 to play; C. Treweek beat O. A. Jefferson 4 up and 3 to play • J. N. Ritchie beat C. K. Sams 3 up and 2to play; B. J. Smith beatF. J.Stilling 4 up and 2 to play. There was a slight shower at the beginning of the day, but the weather then cleared up and was favourable though chilly. Lats in the afternoon the links were in good order.
