A strong wind was blowing right along the ground which favoured each side iii alternate spells. During the first half the Britisher*, with the wind attheir backs, attacked strongly,- ban the excellent defence offered by the Australians held them off lill within a few minutes of the eud of the spell, when, through a mulJ by.Redwood, who got the ball but dropped it, Vila kicked along the ground to the v/ing, when Morgan scored a try. The sttempi; at goal failed and the, spell ended~ Britain 3, Australia 0.
On resuming, tho Anstrali.ans at pneo became ag-jressive, and for the; greater part of the apelt- mads tho play ver-y lively, Wickham, Futcer and Fihdlay, of the back division, and Judd and Waleh, of the forwards, specially doing good work. They repeatedly fought their way to the British line, but a stubborn defsnee prevented their : getting over. Towards the end of the spell the local men tired perceptibly, and the British coming again strongly, entirely changed the complexion of the game; the last quarter providing.fass and exciting play, tries being scored by Swannel, Morgan, and Gabo. One was converted- by O'Brien, and another by Bush, making the floßl scores—Britain 16, Australia 0.
