The ordinary monthly meeting of the general committee of the A. and P. Association tvas held to-day. - There-,raa a very fair attendance considering the inclement weather. Owing to illness, the newly elected President, Mr S. W, Luxford, was not present, and the chair was occupied by Mr A., ti. Kussell. cOE RESPOX DEN'CE. _ Prom the Waiiganui A. and P. Consideration was -jiven to questions submitted by the Agriculttiral Conference relative to the continuation of its sittings and if it should retire in ia?or of the Farmers' Union Conference. Mr Stuekey considered the A^rienltnral Conference should be held and in Wellington. He thought the Farmers' Union Conference did not cover all lie ground. It was decidsd oa Mr J. The latter portion was agreed to on Mr 0. Dunk's initiative. : Apologies wero rec.-ivol from several members. A motion, moved by Mr Stuekey, and seconded by Mr Dunk, expressive of ihe Cotnmittaß's regret at hoaring of Mr Luxford's serious illness and hopes for his speedy recovery, was carried unanimously. On Mr Gillies' motion Messrs G. N ; Pharazyn (FeUdine), W. J. Phillips (Saueon), J. Whiskvr and TC. J. Davis (Rongotea), wore elected life members amid applause. Subscripions from life members are applied to the reduction of the mortgage to Messrs McHardy Brca. pending the transfer to the Provident; Funa. The members ejected to-dey represent £40. At tho previous msetiag; of the Commutes two life members wera elected on Mr Gillies' motion. The auditors fee was fixed at £10 10s and passed for nayment as were also ordinary accounts. _ Formal motions relative to the execution of mortgages given by the Association were moved by Mr Johnston and passed. Replying to a. que-tion from Mr Gillies relative to work done by committees the chairman rulei that all committees were" in force until their successors were appointed. The question was asked in connection-with work done by previous members •of the committed who were not now members.
Mr Stuekey moved thac the Spring show be held upon the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in the week va which the first of November falls and future shows be held each, year during that date. ATr Stuekey said his motion was practically that of Mr Jacob, which in the latter's absence was moved pro forma, by Mr Johnston. Mr Jacob's motion was tha; the Spring show be held on the 2nd. 3rd and 4th November. Continuing, Mr. Sfcuekey said he wished by the motion, to affirm the principle of holding the show during the week mentioned each year. There had been a lot of trouble in this connection during the past few seasons, and Mr Stuekey detailed the attempt that had been made to hold a conference 0? 4.. and P. Associations -svitk tlxe idea of arranging a sequence of dates. The idea had fallen through for various reasons winch have previously been published.
The motion was seconded by Me Sunk, who said that. the. proposed • astion would', not in ■ any way injure associations up the country.; It gave them.' an'extra week to come anl go upon. .-'..'' - Mr K. S. Abraham said he - was in favour of the motion, and also cxi pressed, the opinion that the Conference should take up the question of show dates. . Mr Stuckey said that the matter could be very satisfactorily dea I*. with by the Conference if it had the same powers as the Racing Conference, bat at the present time it was unable to compel adherence to its decision. Mr Johnston considered tuac the latter part of Mr Stuckejr's amendment should be taken as a separate resolution but the point was held over for the' moment. Thf amendment was then put and carried. Before being put ■ again as the motion Mr Abraham moved that the Show be held in the week in which the'first of November falls -and the date of future Shows be 'decided- by. t!te conference. He reiterated his opinion that the conference should select tfao -dates -o£ shows, and saVd
if that were done the Manawatu Association was -quite strong enough; to show on the dates allotted it even if any other Association did choose to snow -on the same 'dates.' The amendment was carried, ,
