Beautifying Association.

CTo the Editor}

Sir,-A movement is t n foot to form as. association, for beautifying the Square, and certainly it a very needful one. Falmerstonians are anxious for their town to go ahead, but while such a rubbish waste Is left in the centre of it men of means and taste will give us a wide berth. I would ask any impartial person to inspect the Square in front of the Post Office and view the 'disgusting stuff shot flown there and loft ; also, th© unspeakably filthy remains of a seat in the most prominent part of the town, and s a y if such sights arq calculated to advance the host interests of the Borough. Many years ago I offered to draw up a plan for improving the Square ,and make a present of it to the Borough. Council. I -did not get even the courtesy of a reply, and the same lack of ordinary politeness seems *o be a> characteristic ot their successors. If, j n addition to paying rates, wo 'give a sum yearly for Square improvements, it is only fair and right for the Council to help us; and also give up the wrangling and do-nothing policy olf. the .past s'Oar. Possibly my remarks may not;please everybody, 'but ill doing what I consider ito be my duty, I .shall always speak my mind. A liberal allowance of '■' elbow grease," money and common sense will (make a beauty spot of what ds' now . a plague spot, ami the hanging gardens of old Babylon will probably sufler by comparison.

I am, etc., A. A. LISSAMAtf.
