An accident which might have been attended with serious consequences took place on the Stratford racing track on Monday afternoon. Thinking that the trials were over i'or the djay, and not perceiving that two horses were being sent for the 4-i- furlongs, the caretaker hung the chain -across the track. Lambert, the rider of Makikihi, saw the vlanger wjien it was too late to pull up, so hoping that 'his horse might see the obstacle and jump it, he did nqt check the animal's speed. Makikihi crashed fair into the chain, his weight and impetus snapping the links as though they were mad. of burnt flax. The jockey went through the air as if shot from a catapult, and landed with a jarring bump on the racing track. Fortunately neither horse nor rider were injured in the least.—Post.
