MELBOURNE, March 17. Mr Peacock has resigned the leadership of the Opposition in the State Assembly. Mr Donald MacKinnon- lias succeeded him.
HOBART. March 17. In the Assembly the Address-in-Reply was adopted.
-The Treasurer has delivered his flnan-ial statement,- showing that last year closed with a deuciency of £-21,000, which was due to the small-pox outbreak. He estimated the reven-u. for the current year at £861,000 and the exoenditure at £849,000. He will submit a proposal to remit £36,000 from the personal exertion tax coupled with a proposal for an occupancy tax. The debate was adjourned till Tuesday.

At the farewell dinner to the Englishmen, given -by the Cricket Association, Foster, the financial secretary, stated the tour had resulted in'a large deficit. The Marylebone Club did not desire to make a profit, but expected to receive a sum to provide a 'bonus for the _n-o----fessional members of the team, He scarcely thought the M.G.C. would send out another team on the same terms, viz;., half profits from the gates.
During the day the' team played and won a football match- under the British Association rules.
