POHANGINA NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
A keen competition took place on Saturday between the members of the Raumai-Pohaugina Rifle Club for a trophy presented by Mr Paul. Towards the finish, when it became apparent there would be a close fight for the prize, the competitors were a.'l more or less excited. "When the last sbot was fired, it resulted in a tie between Messrs C. Stevens and H. Fitzsimona, and the light being so bad, the usual spin of the coin favoured Mr C. Stevens. Of course the shooting is not u-p to the usual standard for a club, but taking into consideration that some cf the members have only fired twice out of a rifle, it is very fair. The following are the scores, 7 shots at 200, 300 and 500 yards, no sighters :—
The weather of late has been very unsettled throughout the Pohangina, more so than the same month last year, which has been very severe on stock, especially on dairy cows, but at present the outlook is better. ' The Sports' Association will lose a worthy chairman in Mr Vaughan leaving the district, he haying disposed of his property. . . . . Our bridge question still induces some of our worthy settlers to have a heated debate when they perchance meet and discuss the matter. .
