At a public meeting held here last night, it was resolved, That in the opinion of this meeting gambling is a growing evil, and -serjously detrimental to the moral and financial well-being of the people; That this meeting considers it most unrighteous on the part of theGovernment of the colony to legalise in any form such a national evil as gambling, and respectfully urges, the Government to pass the Bill for. the abolition of the totalisator introduced by Mr Ell; That a letter be sent to Mr Willis, M.H.R. for Wangan'ui, commending his action in supporting.the proposal to abolish the totalisator because it.is inconsistent on the part of the Legislature to make gambling illegal in one form and legalise it in another. ,
