Manawatu County Council.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Council was held on Saturday. There were present Crs F. Robinson, J. G. Wilson (in chair), J". R. McLennan, T. Masters, J. P. Clarke, Strang, and H. Hammond, The inward correspondence was dealt with as follows :— From J. Collingwood, Awahuri, asking for renewal of his slaughtering license.— Granted, From Palmerston Transvaal Relief Fund Committee, asking that goods donated to gift auction along the Tram Mne be carried free. —Granted. From Chief Surveyor, asking Council to consent to closing road in Ohakea estate and stating he had no power to give two acres of land for gravel reserves and pointing out that Lands Department had given nine acres of land for a new road leading to proposed bridge oyer Rangitikei river. Also stating that provision had been made

Cr. Strang said £70 had already been spent on this road. The deviation proposed by the overseer would cut up the section of his farm too much. Jn any case it was not clear how the j8215 needed to make the roai conld be raised, It was left to Cr. Strang toeee Mr Bowe on the matter. The report oi the commute which visited Eongotea at the request of the Dairy Company re proposals for drainage q£ the Company's factories was read as follows : " The committee, after fqlly considering the subject, decided to submit two alternative proposals for adoption by the Dairy Factory Company, as follows : " First, Drain to run through private property, the Company to make arrangements with the owners for the right (and pay the cost; ii any) to lay the pipes in as straight a direction as possible. This suggestion is strongly recommended. Permission given for the drain-to be taken through Midway Street, provided that the top of the pipes were not less ?■ *£ lnches from the surface of the /ma muCo?, ncil t0 take no responsibility (2) The Council provisionally grants permission for drainage to run as requested along Midway and Severn Streets, subject to the pleasure of the Council. That the top of the pipes be not less than 18 inches from the surface of the road. That the Company obtain and pay the cost of a report of a competent engineer (to be approved by the Council) on the subject of drainage from the factories. Such report to be submitted to the Council within one month after its receipt by the company. Mr Mitchell, overseer, said he had been willing to allow the pipes to be put through his land for £5 and subject to provision for drainage from his own section and from the road. The Company had taken the drainage by trie road. The report was adopted. The following alterations were made in the rate roll:—Thomas Gifford, in place of James Bull, for section 273 and 274, block 4, Te Kawa; John Sathley in place of E. H. Buchanan, for section ,4, block 3. ' -Resolved that the road leading from McDonell's Line to the Rangitikei river, opposite MrD. Fraser's property, be formed. Tenders to •be called by next meeting. _Mr George Harris was appointed Registrar of dogs, the tax to be 2s 6d for sneepj cattle and rabbit dogs, 5s for other dogs, The following tenders were accepted: —Contract 79, R. Anderson, 7s 4d per yard ; contract 82, C. Lumsden, 5s 4d a yard ; contract 83, J, Stratton, 5a 6d a yard ; eontiact 85, H. J. Fagan, 3s 6d a yard ; contract 86, J. Stratton, Ss per yard ; contract 87, Stewart,*Co, 3s 6d a yard ; contract 90, A. Burgess, £97 10s tnejob; contract 88, L. Lumsden, 4a per yard ; for supply of dog collars, J. Ternperley.—Advocate.
