Dunedin, February 15. The return of candidates' expenses at the general election has been filed. It shows the following were the expenses incurred : —Dunedin City : J. A. Millar £85, J. F. Arnold £94, A. R. Barclay £97, Scobie McKenzie£69, A Sligo£B3, Charles Haynes £81, C. R. Chapman £199. The only receipt was in the case of Arnold? who was voted £25 as a donation towards his expenses from the Otago Workers' Political Committee. Caversham : A. R. Morrison £41, W. Warren, £26. New Plymouth, February 15. At an enthusiastic meeting to-night it was decided to form a second Volunteer corps, to be called the Taranaki Guards. Double the number allowed handed in their names. Wellington, February 15. The jury again disagreed over the trial of Mrs Buck, accused of arson, and a new trial has been ordered for next session. The accused was admitted to bail, her self in £50, and two sureties of £25 each. The imports into the colony during the December quarter amounted to £2,400,460, including £117,575 of specie, as against £2,187,406 in the corresponding quarter of 1898. For the year the total was £8,739,633, as against £8,230,600 in the previous year.
