ROMANCE OF THE STAGE.
Fifteen years ago Maggie Summer, field, a very pretty girl, wae connected with Mrs Drew's Arch street Theatre as a ballet dancer, as was her sister. Both gained reputations as dancers, and were known m all parts of the country. Magaio Summerfield wns always a favourite. Both girls were respected for their many virtues, and their friend* at Philadelphia were numerous, Among Maggie Summerfield's adi infers was a young man whose father was the senior member of a prominent firm of manufacturers of chandeliers and gas fixtures of this city. He paid her constant attention, and it became known that the youngpeople were engaged to be married. The young man's people objected lo the match because Miss Summerfield was a danseuse. He argued but the family stood firra, and their decision was irrevocable. Their next move was to overcome his passion. They belie vod it to bo but a passing fancy, that might be obliterated by travel. The disconsolate young man was sent to China; but before starting on his enforced journey he saw his. sweetheart, aud they exchanged vows of constancy. The young man spent fifteen years m China and made a fortune of 100,000dol. A month ago MisHSummerfieldconcluded her season with a well known company and came to Philadelphia to spend the summer. Her lover returned .to Philadelphia last week, married Miss Summerfield, and they are now, at the seashore. — Chicago Times.
