The Rabbit Nuisance.

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION) - ; -Napier, August 31. ■\ A very large meeting of sheep farmers was held yesterday to receive the reports of .the committees appointed by the settlers of Hawke's Bay and Wain pawa Counties m reference to the approaching invasion of the rabbit plague. One report stated that rabbits were on the immediate boundary of the province, northward of the Akiteo river, and re~N commended the erection of a rabbitproof fence from the coast, running in- [ land fifteen miles, towards Woodville, m the Seventy Mile Bush . The other report recommended the direction of the fence, and condemned the line of the artificial boundary between the Wellington and Hawke's' Bay ' Provincial District. The estimated cost of khe^ehceiMSOOO. The sheep farmers, representing a quarter of a million of sheep, have agreed to 'pay a farthing a head to defray the cost. Ail sheepowners m the district will be asked to sontribute. The Hawke's Bay members have been requested to communicate with the Government with a view tOßecure asbistance.
