MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
YESTERDAY'B MEETING.
Present — Crs Rockstrow (chairman), Mcßeth, Bruce, McLennan, and Gray. Explanations from Crs Linton, Fry, and Sanson, for absence.— • Received and accepted. Minutes of last meeting read and confirmed. Mr Bull waited on the Council, re a matter of rent reserve owing by him, came not having been paid within the time as specified m lease. He spoke very strongly, telling the chairman that he knew the steps whioh had been taken, were taken through the personal animus. of the chairman and other councillors. He therewith threw down what appeared to be a bundle of notes m payment of his rent, and left the Council Chamber. The Council afterwards discussed tne matter with closed doors, excluding the representatives ot the Press. The chairman afterwards informed the reporters that it was resolred that the resolution of Mr McLennan (to the effect that the money left by Mr Bull be received) be withdrawn. Proponed by Cr Mcßeth, seconded by Cr Bruce, and carried^-That ; the chairman and mover be a committee to wait on the Wanganui Harbor Board, to consider the 5 per cent, charged by this Council.
Proposed by Cr McLennan, seconded by Cr Bruce, and carried— that the claim of the late rate-collector, Mr Mowlem, be held over for discussion for the next meeting. Proposed by Cr Bruce, seconded by Cr McLennan, and carried — That the deposit of Mr Hitchens, of £6 ' for slaughter license, Karere, be returned. Proposed by Or Mcßeth, and seconded by Cr Gray — Th<fc the letters of Phyn and Paul be referred to. Cr Mcßeth to report upon at the next meeting. Proposed by Cr Bruce and seconded by Cr Mcßeth— That Mr Bray be instruoted to prepare plans and s perinea* tions and call for tenders for the erec* tiori of a bridge over the Mangaone stream, on the Karere Road, tenders to be m by next meeting. Proposed by Cr Bruce seconded, by Cr Mcßeth— That fresh tenders for the, supply of metal for ths roads of the Taonui Hiding, be sailed for, tenders to be m by next meeting. Proposed by Cr Gray and seconded by Cr Rockstrow — That tenders be called for working the Foxton Ferry from Ist April 1888 to 3 1st March
1884, tender's to be m by next meeting* Proposed by Cr Me Beth and seconded by Or Gray — That the tender of Mr, Currin for the collection of the dog (ax, Kiwitea Biding, be accepted. Proposed by Or McLennan and seconded by Or Gray — That the tender of F. El lerm of LI sbe accepted for the collection of the dog tax m Orona Biding. • Proposed by Cr Bruce and seoonded by Cr Mo Beth— That M> H. Graft be appointed slaughterhouse inspector for the Taonni Biding for the ensuing twelvemonths. Accounts passed for payment, £706 5s 3d. Principal Items — (Sheerin Bros.) Wanganui Harbour Board final £243 1 3s 6d ; Manchester Highway Board £86 ; Behrendt and Managh, Wilson Richardson's Line £72 10a ; Wafne and Beard (progress) £47 4s 6d ; Pay sheet Maintenance £67 10s 6d ; C. Brajr, Engineer and Superintendence, £36 8s 7d ; McOulloch salary £16 13s 4d ; Chairman's salary £25 ; Wanganui Hospital account for January £9 Us 8d ; Councillors travelling expenses £27 153, Proposed by Or Gray, seconded by Cr McLennan, and carried—That Robb. McLean be appointed slaughter* house in>pßctor for the Isvhoa and Horowhenua Riding; by Cr Gray, seconded by Cr Rockstrow, and carried — that the necessary repairs be done to the punt at Foxton J**errj, and to use m the meantime the punt received from Uhau and that tenders be called for same and to close on 1 )th inst, and that the Councillors for Ohau and'Oroua be committee to open up tenders.* Proposed by Cr Bruce, seconded bj Cr McLennan, and carried — That tenders for the repairs and addition to the Awahuri Bridge be called for m accordance with the plans already pre« pared tenders to close at next meet" ing. i Proposed by Cr Bruce, seconded by Cr McLennau, and carried— That the | chairman be authorized to call a special meeting to take steps m connection with the Road Construction Act on reciept of the replies to the Government ' to the application.
