Maniototo Early Settlers' Association.

! The annual reunion of the abo e j aisociation took the form of a picnic | in the Recr.-ation Reserve on Tiiurs- ! day, llth inst. The weather was beautifully fine, and a large crowd assembled, including a large number of visitors. The various coin ittee* h3d made the usual arrangements for theenjo-ment of those present, including pipers and dancers, the pipers being Messrs A. Si ait (champion), Dunedin, and D. Matheson, who were assisted by Mr W. Wilsoa of Longlands Station, and the dancers were Misse* M'Donald (N.Z. Champion) and Frams, Dunedin. The Brass Band also played a few tunes during the afternoon, so that the music and Dance CommitUe fulfilled its duties well.

Allison, 3rd; During the aftsrnuon the mayor (Mr Fraser) welcomed the visitors, and expressed the pleasure universally felt at seeing so many of the old settlers yet amongst us, and wished them long years of life yet. Mr Scott, M.P., endorsed th* remarks and referred to the great,changes that had taken place in the district since the early and in conclusion made a fewpatriotic remarks in refen nee to the present war. Mr Alcock (secretary of the kindred association of Waikouaiti) returned thanks for the welcome, and gave a few words of advice to the younger generation.

A sheep guessing competition was held during the day, a fat lamb having been given by Mr R. Inder in aid of the Belgian Relief Fund. The Sale of tickets realised £7 13s, and at the sale at the concert in the evening the lamb changed hands as under: —Mr R Inder 255, t*o friends 255, Mrs J. Law, jun, 20s, Mrs Strode 20s, and Mr R. Inder 20s (the final purchaser). Total JBI3 3-\ Prizes coßt 30s, leaving £ll 13s to go to the fund.

The correct weight of the lamb was 96£lb and Mr J. Bailey guessed 951bs, and W. Dunda* 93Jlbs.

In the evening ths hall vras packed for the concert, and a very bright programme was presented, nearly every item being encored. Mr Fraser acted as ihairmsn, and after oppning with patriotic sung's Miss V. Inder gave a pianoforte solo. Songs, Mr A. E. Brown, Mrs Fraher, Miss Hey wood, Mr M'Kenzie, Mrs Drake, Mrs to'Kenz e; Highland dance, Misses M'Doimld and Frame. After an interval the following contributed songs : Mr Beachey, Miss Heywood, Mr M'Kenzie Mrs M'Kenzie; Highland dance, Misses M'Donald and Frame; musical monologue, Mr and Mrs M'Kenzie.

To fill in the interval before the dance a torchlight procession from the Fire Brigade Station to the bottom of the street took place, where a bonfire was held. The dance was crowded.
